Chrysanthemum Terrace by 周杰伦, Jay Chou, was the catalyst for my love of Chinese music. I had just began to really become interested in China and Chinese music, when I saw "Curse of the Golden Flower" for the first time. It was airing on Encore, so I decided to watch it, since it was in fact, Chinese. At the end of this movie, while the credits were playing I heard the most enchanting song. I loved the song so much, I watched the end of the same movie a few more times when it replayed, just so that I could watch the credits, and hear this euphonious sound again. Eventually I realized the movie would eventually stop playing, and then what would I do??? So, I asked the smartest person I know, google, who was this singer singing this song which had touched me so. I came to discover the song was called "Chrysanthemum Terrace", and was by an extremely famous Taiwanese artist, Jay Chou. I also learned Jay has starred in the very movie from which I had first heard this song. Ever since then I have been an avid Jay Chou fan, collecting his albums and songs as much as possible. I now consider him to be my all time favorite music artist, and by some standards, I am probably borderline obsessed :-) Jay Chou, and his Chrysanthemum Terrace opened up an entire new world of music for me, leading me to discover several other Chinese artists and Songs.
Here is the song that started it all:
